What is ISO 50001?

ISO 50001 is an international standard developed by technical and regulatory representatives from more than 56 countries, which establishes the minimum requirements necessary to achieve efficient energy management in any organization under the principle of continuous improvement of energy management.

Scope of application: all types of companies and organizations regardless of their size or activity.

The main objective: to integrate Energy Management in all its aspects within an organization with the company’s management system, from the purchase of energy and raw materials to the measures to be adopted in the company to promote energy savings.

What is an energy management system (EnMS)?

An Energy Management System (EnMS) is a set of mutually interrelated or interacting elements that establish energy policy and objectives, and the processes and procedures necessary to achieve those objectives.

What are the benefits of implementing an EnMS in the organization?

The following is a list of benefits that an Energy Management System offers within the organization’s strategy:


  1. Staff satisfaction:
    An improvement in energy efficiency issues generates a more efficient process and is conducive to a better working environment by reducing temperature, emission exhaust and waste levels.

    according to scope 72 of the gazette of March 29, 2019, those companies that are certified in the ISO 50001 standard are excluded from the condition of minimum monthly energy and power consumption, thus being able to opt for the TMT-B promotional tariff.
